Birders,
A MARBLED GODWIT was found in Cell 3 of the Banana Unit between 6:30 - 8:00
am this morning. I will post some images this evening.
Good news is that Cell 3 mudflats are reappearing! The mudflat at the north
end of Cell 3 is re-exposed and hosting the following:
Dozens of Caspian Terns, Bonaparte's Gulls, and Ring-billed Gulls
~100 Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers (I could not find any Baird's)
~10 Semipalmated Plovers
~ 25 Short-billed Dowitchers
~10 Stilt Sandpipers (in varying levels of molt)
~30 Lesser Yellowlegs
~2 Black-bellied Plovers (fly-over)
A mud spit is also showing along the SE shoreline of Cell 3 and was hosting
several dozen gulls and terns and a few more shorebirds, but I did not check
them out.
Only a few Lesser Yellowlegs and Least Sandpipers were found along the east
shore of the Long Pond Unit
Other notables:
1 Wilson's Snipe in Walpatich Unit (fly-by)
1 female Northern Harrier along the North Causeway hunting the sunflower
field
