Birders,
Tim Baerwald just called to report a White-faced Ibis is currently feeding
in the south pond of the Three Oaks wastewater ponds in Berrien County.
Apparently the water level has been drawn down recently and other waders
and/or shorebirds are present as well.
The Three Oaks ponds are located on the east side of Schwark Road, just
north of US-12. Schwark Road is about one mile west of Three Oaks.
Entry to the ponds is not permitted, but there is a viewing area outside of
the fence where the south and middle ponds can be seen. Park on the east
side of Schwark (there is a small pull off at the bird viewing area where a
few cars can park; otherwise just pull safely off of the road....)and walk
up to the fence. There is an obvious "indentation" in the fence line (by the
Purple Martin house) that allows closer access to the ponds.
Good birding,
Kip Miller
