Henslow's Sparrow, Genesee County, 5/9/09

Birders,

During Genesee Audubon's North American Migration Count Saturday a Henslow's Sparrow was found at For-Mar Nature Center in Burton. To reach For-mar, go east on I-69 from I-75 to the Center Rd exit. Go left (north) on Center to Court St and go right (East). Turn left (north) on Genesee Rd and go through the light at Davison Rd. The entrance to For-Mar will be on your right. I did not get a specific location for the bird, but you can ask one of the naturalists in the visitor's center (810 789 8567).

Other new species for our count were White-eyed Vireo at Buell Lake County Park in Thetford Twp near the large fishing dock/boat launch, and Barred Owl from both Grand Blanc and Fenton Twps. Other "good" county birds included Carolina Wren along the Flint River bikepath in back of Bueche's grocery store downtown, Orchard Oriole in Flushing Twp Nature Park, and Lapland Longspurs from "northeast" Montrose Twp.
