The owner of the home at 881 Romanda St., Jim Pfromm, called the Chippewa Nature Center today with a report of a? male Painted Bunting coming to feeders in his yard.? The information reached me through Joe Soehnel and I went out to the house at 5:00 PM this afternoon.? After about 15 minutes , the bird appeared but only for 15-20 seconds.? It then reappeared at about 5:50 PM and, again, only stayed for 10-15 seconds.? The house is located in a small, compact subdivision and there was a lot of after work/school activity, barking dogs, people walking and the bird was skittish.? It may be much?more ?quiet in the morning.
Directions:? Take Poseyville Rd. south from the bridge in Midland for approximately 1.7 miles to Miller Rd.? Turn right (west) on Miller Rd.? Go 0.3 miles to Romanda St.? The house is situated at the north end of Romanda St. which is one leg of a U-shaped subdivision.? The house is on the right (east) side of the street.? Also see p. 257 of the Michigan Guide for a map showing Poseyville and Miller Rds.? The street is very narrow so parking may be a problem.? Do not block the driveways.? There are Spruce trees in the front yard with a number of feeders in front of the house.? When I saw the bird it was on the ground among the daffodils below the feeders.? There are a lot of places for this bird to hide with thick woods just north of the subdivision.? Good luck.
