I'm a couple days late...sorry. My wife Emily and I stopped at the "spot" along Buffalo Road off Avery at 11:30 Monday morning...5/4. Four birders were already patroling the stretch and a delightful lady (whose name I unfortunately did not get) was Johnny on the Spot just after we pulled over and parked. She spotted Mr. Smith just east of the pump and signaled for us to hurry over as she had just gotten him in her sights, showed us where he was, and then hurried back to her car to retrieve her scope. It was a tricky find amidst all the corn stubble rows as he kept hopping from row to row. Emily had it in her binocs almost immediately. It took me longer as I kept looking too far up the hill crest (he was much closer than I thought). Johnny on the Spot quickly set up her scope. Emily and I...and the other 3 folks...all got a close-up look at Mr. Smith....a handsome devil to say the least. Mr. Smith was hanging with a couple Horned Larks and a Savannah Sparrow that morning.
