Hi,
We were pleasantly surprised and thrilled to hear then have
spectacular views of a male Prothonotary Warbler this morning on our
property (N 43.54973, W 85.49088)on the Baldwin River a few miles
northeast of the Village of Baldwin. He was singing and foraging
and preening in the trees over the river. Unfortunately it seems to
have been a brief visit (probably <1 hour) - we haven't heard from
him since before noon. If we see/hear him again and have any
inclination that he would stay long enough to be a "chaseable" bird
we will post again and give directions.
We had the same situation on 28 April with a Louisiana Waterthrush -
except he never gave us a look before he moved up river and quit
singing. We have had brief visits like this several of the last 6
springs here, but this was certainly our first Prothonotary Warbler
for Lake County, let alone for our "yard list".
The other new arrivals this AM were one Ovenbird and one
Yellow-throated Vireo.
Happy birding!
Bonnie and Janie Stout
