Smith Longspurs May 3 afternoon YES

After 5 hours of patient searching finally found a pair of Smith's Longspurs close to the roadat about 4:10pm.  Take Buffalo Rd east from Avery about halfway to Beaverdam Rd.  When you pass a large mud puddle on the north side of the road and there is corn on both sides get out of the car and LISTEN.  I had been chasing flocks for hours and finally had luck when it was quiet and I could here a pair making call notes (similar to Snow Buntings) nearby.  Then it was fairly easy.  You may have to be patient to get good looks, but the male is stunning and worth the effort.
