During an Ottawa County Parks birding trip today, there were several sightings of interest. Large numbers of long-tailed ducks were seen from both the Grand Haven (Ottawa Co.) pier and the Pere Marquette Park pier in Muskegon County. At least 10,000 in Ottawa and possibly an equal number in Muskegon. All but a few were well out into Lake Michigan in swarms over the water. A pair of white-winged scoters was also present at PMP and at least 10 bald eagles were on the Lake Michigan ice in Grand Haven.

At the Muskegon Wastewater, we saw 4 glaucous gulls and 1 adult lesser-black backed gull. 2 GG were south of M-46 in the farm fields. 2 GG and the LBBG were in the large east lagoon of the wastewater. A N. shrike was on the power lines south of M-46. After most of the group left, an adult golden eagle flew over near the corner of Swanson and White Rds.
