John Hust informed me of a bird that he has identified as a
White-winged Dove in his back yard earlier today. I drove to his house
to verify the bird this evening, but it was no longer visiting his
yard. Although John is not a birder, his description was perfect for
this species, and he correctly identified the Common Chaffinch visiting his yard earlier this year.

Birders are welcome go visit his yard to try to see this
bird. Take M28 east from its intersection with Route 41 south of
Marquette for 19.1 miles east to Shore Drive. There is a green sign
for Laughing Whitefish Point on the left side of the road where Shore
Drive intersects M28. Turn left onto Shore Drive and follow it for 4
miles to the drive exiting to your right, immediately before the red 50
gallon drum decorated with white bears. Take this drive slowly past
the first house (which harbors very young children with a raccoon-like
love of roads) to the house at the end of the drive. Please be sure to not block the drive or garage doors when parking. Walk around the
right side of the house to the back yard. The bird was visiting the
feeders in the center flower garden this afternoon. Scott
