All-

I spent Saturday (6 June) evening and Sunday (7 June) from dawn until 3:30PM birding Berrien Co. with Skye Haas, Joe Kaplan, and Louie Dombroski. Here are the brief highlights of our outing:

Chuck-will's-widow- 1 singing intermittently behind the Christian camp on Steinbauer Rd. between 10PM and midnight, 1/2 way between Jones and 140.

Fish Crow- At least 1 at the Forest Lawn Landfill's south edge, Sunday late morning.

Worm-eating Warbler- 1 atop the Mt. Randall trail at Warren Dunes SP, Sunday AM

*Summer Tanager- 1 at the the huge southern dune blowout at Warren Dunes SP, Sunday early PM. Directions: take the southern entrance to Warren Dunes SP along the Red Arrow Hwy, turning right at the fee booth. 1/2 way to the campsite, turn left into the parking lot with the picnic/pavilion area. Walk the path toward Lake MI, bearing left at the Y into the huge blowout (bearing right here will lead you to the Mt Randall trail). About 200-300 yds down this path, right as you clear the area of forest and enter the "bowl" of the blowout, the Summer Tanager was giving its "picky-tuk-e-tuk" calls from the hillside to the south (left). Heard only, approx. 1 PM. Map is here: http://www.michigandnr.com/Publications/PDFS/RecreationCamping/warren_dunes_map.pdf

Yellow-breasted Chat- 1 at Brown Sanctuary singing in the field NE of the intersection of Wood St. and Crystal Ave.

Prairie Warbler- at least 2 just beyond the said location for Summer Tanager.

WILSON'S WARBLER- 1 late male singing at the cul de sac on Floral Lane.

Good Birding,
Caleb Putnam
