RMH StationeryListers,

I just had the great good fortune to see a pair of White-winged Crossbills
light no more than 20 feet in front of me on the hiking path (seeking grit?)
as I was walking my dog in Cascade Township. Even with the unaided eye I
could see the male's rosy red color and the female's yellowish flank, not to
mention the striking white wing bars on each bird.

The site is on Thornapple River Drive S.E., about a half-mile north of
Cascade Road, or a mile south of Laraway Lake Road, where School Brook (aka
Oak Brook) flows under the road and into the Thornapple River. It is easily
reached by parking either on Shagbark Ave. and walking north along the
hiking path, or on Mooring Heights and walking south (down the hill). There
are a number of large spruces and other conifers in the area.
