Dave Dister, Tim Granger, Doug Cook and I found a female/juv. Harlequin Duck at the end of the south breakwall at the Ludington harbor this morning. Dave had a male there last weekend also. This breakwall is accessable from Iris Rd and then north on Lake Shore Dr. to the parking lot at the end.
The breakwall walk is treacherous and we almost had two fatalities, use your ice cleats or yak-tracks if you head out there.
The view of the outlet of the Pump Storage Plant farther south on Lakeshore Rd. is good for ducks in this frozen time of the year. There were 100+/- goldeneyes, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Common and Red-breasted Mergansers, and a few Long-tailed Ducks in between the breakwalls.
