I stopped by Calvin College today to check out if the crossbills were still there. I pulled into the previously mentioned parking lot at 3:30 and not five minutes later spotted a group of 30+ of the birds in the large conifer in front of the Spoelfhof Center (the Burton entrance leads directly to the south side of the Spoelhof Center). A few minutes later I spotted a completely different group of 20 or so crossbills in another large conifer by the Spoelfhof Center. The flocks would spend a few minutes in a tree, all kick up, and then fly to another tree together. In the 20 minutes I spent watching them, both of the groups stayed in the large conifers around the Spoelhof Center and Hiemenga Hall (the building connected to western edge of the Spoelfhof Center that runs N-S).

Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.
