Listers,

Mary Trombley and I had White-winged Crossbills in Lapeer, Sanilac and St
Clair Counties today.

This morning in St Clair we had at least one flyover White-winged Crossbill
calling at Lakeport State park. We parked at the gate near the campground and
walked north to the pavilion sign. Very few cones in this area. Port Huron
held 100+ Long-tailed Ducks 25+ White-winged Scoters, 10+ Surf Scoters, an
Iceland Gull and a pair of Peregrines.

In late morning in Sanilac Co we found a mixed flock of Pine Siskins,
White-winged Crossbills and Goldfinches moving wildly around the Lexington County
Park on M-25. We parked in the lot and walked across the bridge to the
northern section of the park.

In Lapeer, we saw 11 White-winged Crossbills at the previously reported
Lapeer State Game Area location on Snow Den Trail, south of Barnes Lake Rd. We
parked on the road and walked back to the north through the conifers and the
birds flew in. Driving west on Barnes Lake Road we had another flock of 26
White-winged Crossbills moving back and forth across the road. This was in mid
afternoon.

Richfield County Park on Irish Rd in Genesee Co held a few Siskins but did
not yield any Crossbills today.

Good Birding,

Scott Jennex
Ferndale
