This morning at my feeders I had 2 to 3 Hoary Redpolls mixed with the 200
plus redpolls. One of the Hoary's is a Hornemanni subspecies. It is
very white and larger than the other redpolls and really stands out. I
took some bad digiscope pics of it this morning. I will try for more
today. The redpolls are skitterish and about the time I get it scoped,
they fly up to a tree. The redpolls have been building at the feeders
some this week from around 100 a week ago. The best time to see them
seems to be between 7:45 and 1:00. After 1:00 a lot of the redpolls must
disperse to the fields around the area because there is generally about
20 to 30 birds around late in the afternoon. The house is located on
Sunfield Rd. between Reeder and Tuttle Rd. This is about 3 miles
straight east, as the Redpoll flys, from the Meijer store on M66 south of
Ionia. It is the only place between Reeder and Tuttle Rd on the west
side of the road. If anyone it interested in working on their county
list or would like more info on the redpolls fell free to e-mail me or
give me a call.
