Hooded Merganser X Common Goldeneye Hybrid

On Saturday, February 14, 2009 there was a male Hooded Merganser X Common Goldeneye Hybrid at the AuSable River Mouth in Iosco County, AuSable, Michigan. The bird was diving right off the boat ramp in the DNR area. It was also seen by Wayne Shawl under the US 23 bridge at the river mouth on Sunday. 

The probability is that it is a Common Goldeneye Hybrid, but I wouldn't know how to distinguish between a Common or a Barrow's hybrid. Maybe someone can help? I'd be glad to email photos of the bird on the water and in flight at r.eriksson at att.net
