Mich-listers:

Brian Johnson phoned at 2:00 this afternoon to report a Snowy Egret at
the Clay Ponds on the south Wastewater properties in Muskegon County.
(Clay ponds are at south end of Swanson Road approx. 1.5 miles south of
Apple Ave, M-46). This is not the first Snowy Egret reported in
Muskegon County, but according to Brian it is one of only a couple ever
recorded here.

Birders,
Mike Sefton just called to report that as of 4:15, he & Lathe Claflin
found 5 Smith's Longspurs at the aforementioned location in Berrien
County. One breeding plumaged male had approached to within 20ft of
their viewing spot.
Mike asked me to relay that the birds had been hard to locate, to the
point that a group of 6 other birders they ran into had been searching
the area for several hours to no avail.
Good birding,
Jacco

Good afternoon,

After a one-day absence, the White-faced Ibis has returned to LEMP. I
originally saw it around 3:00pm. As of 4:15, it was frequenting the
flooded areas of Cove Point Picnic Area between the second and third
parking lots.

Greetings All,

We got on site around 7:00 this evening, several birders were already
there with only?one?short?look and two flybys?mentioned among those
present.? Around 7:45ish, on the south side of Buffalo Rd.
Jer?viewed?about 6 birds in flight that lit nearby.?All?available
glass?was?focused on the area and good looks of Smith's were
had?by?many.? We continued to follow the birds as they made their way
east.? The flock seemed to grow to?around 30 birds, however this was
quite possibly a mixed flock.? Only one Lapland was positively id'ed
during our time on site.? We left past sunset with the birds creeping
towards us and back to the west.?

Note: as mentioned by others,?our experience, for the most part,? was of
birds that were?very tough to find, follow, and get good looks of.? Much
of our time was spent on birds that were around 250'+ away from the
road.

Shorebirds were plentiful along Avery Rd and a flock of around 30
American Golden Plovers was a beautiful site.?

Thanx Alison and Rhoda!

regards,
red-necked stilt

To All :

Karl Overman and I arrived at Buffalo Rd between Beaver Dam and Avery
Roads Wednesday at 9:00 am. By 9:15 we. heard rattling calls of many
Smith's Longspurs as a flock flew from the north to the south cornfield
where they landed. We saw one male in partial breeding plumage as well
as one female on the ground 20 feet from the road.

There were at least 30 individuals birds present.

Jim
