Greetings All,
We got on site around 7:00 this evening, several birders were already there with only one short look and two flybys mentioned among those present. Around 7:45ish, on the south side of Buffalo Rd. Jer viewed about 6 birds in flight that lit nearby. All available glass was focused on the area and good looks of Smith's were had by many. We continued to follow the birds as they made their way east. The flock seemed to grow to around 30 birds, however this was quite possibly a mixed flock. Only one Lapland was positively id'ed during our time on site. We left past sunset with the birds creeping towards us and back to the west.
Note: as mentioned by others, our experience, for the most part, was of birds that were very tough to find, follow, and get good looks of. Much of our time was spent on birds that were around 250'+ away from the road.
Shorebirds were plentiful along Avery Rd and a flock of around 30 American Golden Plovers was a beautiful site.
Thanx Alison and Rhoda!
regards,
red-necked stilt
