More information is coming in regarding the SMITH'S LONGSPUR(S) in BERRIEN COUNTY, APRIL 27, 2009.
2 (male & female) were reported earlier this morning along Buffalo Road, 1/2 way between Avery Road (east) and Beaver Dam Road (west). The birds were seen among a flock of LAPLAND LONGSPURS. They have not been relocated since the initial sighting. They reportedly flew off to the south of Buffalo Road, a large open corn field. The wind gusts are very high today.
If accepted by the Michigan Bird Records Committee, this would represent the first county record of this species, bringing the county species total to 347 species.
