Listers,
As Caleb reported earlier, I heard/saw/photographed a Eurasian Collard-Dove
today in Mason County. I've posted photos on my blog:
http://ovenbirder.blogspot.com/
I saw the bird 4 times during the day (10:45, 11:08, 1:18 and 2:00). It was
seen in the same 2 trees NE of the intersection of Anderson and Victory
(mentioned previously). The trees are SW of the house on the same lot and
are the closest deciduous trees to the intersection on the NE corner.
Good luck!

Listers-

I just received 2 phone calls from Curtis Dykstra, who has found and
photographed a single Eurasian Collared-Dove in a rural area of Mason
County. The bird was seen at just before 11AM on Friday 24 April 2009, and
was still being seen as of 11:13AM.

I asked him how a Ringed Turtle-Dove X Eurasian Collared-Dove could be ruled
out, and he told me that he has photos showing black on the outer edge of
the tail extending farther toward the tail tip than the black on the medial
part of the tail did.

Directions: The bird is on private property directly at the northeast corner
of the intersection of Victory Dr and Anderson Rd. It was in a deciduous
tree in front of the residence. The bird then flew east approximately
200-300 yds to the next residence (on the south side) of Victory Dr.

This location is ~5 miles east of the big southern arm of Hamlin Lake, ~3.5
miles west of US-31 (at its intersection with Millerton Rd), and ~9.5 miles
south of the Manistee Co. line. From the north take US-31 south to Fountain
Rd, and go west 3.5 miles to Anderson Rd. Turn south on Anderson and go 1
mile to Victory Dr. Turn east on Victory and the first house on the left
(north) side of road is where the bird was found. The second residence at
which it was seen is about 300 yds east of this intersection on the south
side of Victory Dr. From the south take US 31 to Ludington, heading east 2.5
miles on US-10/31 to Stiles Rd. Go north on Stiles about 5.5 miles to
Victory Dr, heading west 0.5 miles to Anderson.

Good luck, and please post if you refind this bird or have further comments
on its ID. If accepted by the MBRC it would represent Michigan's 5th record
of this species.

Cheers,
Caleb Putnam
