Black Scoter Clare County

Today, April 2nd, Robert Epstein, Scott Jennex and I found a female  
Black Scoter on Five Lakes in southern Clare County.  Black Scoters  
are rare inland in Michigan and spring records for most areas of  
Michigan are hard to come by.  For example in Ron Week's book on  
Birds and Birding Saginaw Bay (1995), he lists only one spring record  
for that well worked area.

We saw the Black Scoter from the public boat launch on the east side  
of the lake.  the boat launch is on Beaverton Road about 3 miles  
northwest of the town of Claire.
