FW: Berrien Co. Frigatebird, 26 Sep 08

having completed my write-up of the bird, I pulled the references down from the shelf and have concluded this was likely an adult male magnificent frigatebird given that it was entirely dark overall including belly, axillaries, and upperwings.

I did spend 2 hours there later in the afternoon (with a north wind starting to pick up) and left with Jon Wuepper still in place, but had not re-located the bird.

Tim Baerwald pointed out that in Florida they will often cruise down rivers to roost on snags, and thought Lake Chapin in central Berrien county may also be a place worth checking early in the morning.
