Birders:
While on vacation from Kansas, my husband and I had the pleasure of viewing numerous white-winged crossbills at the lakefront campground of Wilderness State Park in Emmet county, lower penninsula. Three individuals were first observed in the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 2, and a flock of ~20 individuals were sighted mid-day Friday, Sept. 5. I've never observed crossbills in the Lower Penninsula, and did not expect them this early in the fall.
Another fine sighting was an immature Goshawk flushed up from the ground on Waugoschance Point on Thursday, Sept. 4, also within Wilderness State Park.
