Greetings,
On my way home from work tonight (10-22-08) I
decided to take a long detour though the Todd Farms of the Allegan State
Game Area. At 6:20pm I ran across two juvinile Ross's Geese on the south
side of 116th Ave. between 60th St. and 58th St. They were within 30 feet
of the road at first although I could not approach closer than 200 feet
even in the car with out making the 300 or so Canadas they were with
nervous. They did soon fly and over the course of the next 15 mins landed
twice further out in the same corn field. Finally they flew north across
the road with a small flock of Canadas and I lost them behind trees.
Subsequent attempts to find them until dusk were unsuccessfull. However,
they are likely still at the Todd Farms, the attraction being a good
amount of newly cut corn. I will check again in the morning. There were
several Snow Geese in the vicinity as well, so be cautious in your
identification of the Ross's.
Good birding,
Rick
