Birders,
Roger Wykes just called to say that he and John Swales found a 1st winter Franklin's Gull today among c. 50 Ring-billed Gulls at Pleasant Lake in central Washtenaw County. Starting on the west side of the lake, take Hieber Rd. east to the first big turn. Scope the lake from there for the gulls that can be seen through the trees. They had the bird at about 12:30, but were in a dead zone, cell phone wise, and the nearest pay phone didn't work, thus the regrettably untimely communication.
The Rogerator just called again at 2:35 from a non-dead cell zone to report that he and John had found what appear to be the same two Surf Scoters on Cavanaugh Lake that they first found earlier this month. Having a good day, those two (i.e.; Roger and John, but, I suppose, possibly the scoters are having a good day as well).
Roger says that the White-winged Scoter that he had at Big Portage Lake yesterday evening could not be found at 8am today, and that the gulls had all left (assuming they spent the night there last night). There were about 5 Common Loons there, quoth Roger.
