Birders,
Rhoda Johnson, Alison Vilag and I found seven species of gulls in Berrien
County today - and that was without a visit to a landfill..
In addition to the widespread Ring-billeds and Herrings...
The Three Oaks waste water ponds (ok, that's kind of like a landfill.) were
still host to many Bonaparte's Gulls, at least 3 Franklin's Gulls and 1
Little Gull.
A first winter Glaucous Gull was present at the New Buffalo Public Beach and
3 adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls were present at Weko Beach in Bridgman.
It was also a good Red-throated Loon day along the Berrien shoreline with
several seen in flight or on the water from overlooks between New Buffalo
and Weko Beach.
Good birding,
Kip Miller
