Yesterday?about noon I observed an American Avocet from the Whiting overlook Park overlooking the Dow Ponds.? The bird was actively feeding along the small sand island which is in the large northern pond.? It was visible for about 5 minutes then went down on the far side of the island out of view.? This is the same spot where an Avocet was observed?on June 11 of this year.? Whiting Overlook Park is located on Poseyville about 1 mile South of the city of Midland.? See p. 256 of A Birder's Guide to Michigan.
