Darlene Friedman, Reg Baker, and I had a couple of particularly good
birds at Tawas Point State Park on Sunday. One was a PROTHONOTARY
WARBLER. Darlene heard it first and then found it in deep brush. The
bird sang repeatedly over a ten- or fifteen-minute period as we searched
for it. All three of us eventually managed decent looks at it. This
species is rare as far north as Tawas Point.
The other bird was a probable PIPING PLOVER--probable only because
there's the remotest chance that it was a Snowy Plover, as the bird was
very light in color. This bird was with mostly Dunlin on the most
distant sand bar (southwest of the tip).
Both birds were seen at about 11:00 to 11:30 in the morning.
We did have some other good birds. I'll post a trip report later today.
