This morning I was on my way to Chicago Midway for a flight to Dallas and
stopped at Warren Dunes/Floral Lane (6-7:30am) to find Worm-eating Warbler,
Kentucky Warbler and Prairie Warbler among other migrants.
The Worm-eating Warbler was found just as described in the previous post at
the base of the dune climb straight west of the end of Floral Lane. It
was singing constantly and was very easy to find and view. I climbed the
dune in hopes for a Prairie Warbler - which was heard at quite a distance.
Due to time constraints I went back down to look for Kentucky Warbler
instead.
I did not find any Kentucky Warblers - but did find a potentially confusing
Mourning Warbler at the same spot the Kentucky Warblers were seen
previously. It was singing a secondary song-type that sounded suspiciously
close to Kentucky. So beware if you go looking.
Good birding.
