Hello,
Unfortunatley, the GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL was NOT relocated after about 1:45pm on 2 May 2008. The gull (adult bird) had been noticed at Tiscornia Park (beach), St. Joseph by Tim Baerwald earlier that day and also seen by Adam Byrne, Caleb Putnam & others. Also present at St Joe was a WILLET, which was relocated on May 3 (today).
On May 3, a WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen by Baerwald at Tiscornia Park, which flew in off the lake, landed briefly and kept flying southward.
On April 30th BARNACLE GOOSE, seen mixed in with CANADA GEESE was found by Alison Village. Specific location was on the south side of Buffalo Road in a flooded cow pasture, between Dayton Road (east) and Mont Zion Rd (west). This is about 1 & 1/2 miles north of Michigan - Indiana state line. I reclocated the bird on May 1st, and noticed a legband on its right foot. I was not able to read any numbers on the band. Attempts to relocate the bird since May 1st have, to my knowledge, been unsucessful.
On May 2nd, Heidi Beardsley found a MARBLED GODWIT in a flooded field on the southeast corner of Avery Road and US -12. This lies bewteen the towns of Three Oaks and Galien. Andre Moncrieff reported possible LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS at same location later that evening. As of about 1:00 pm on May 3rd, the MARBLED GODWIT was still present, as were a pair of WILSON'S PHALAROPES and several other shorebird species including BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. WILSON'S PHALAROPES have also been seen this week at Three Oaks Sewage Ponds, and along Holden Road, just north of 2nd Street, outside of Galien. 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen Mid-week at this location by John Jann & Dave Vinnedge. Check vicinity around flooded area off Holden.
A late SNOW GOOSE (blue-phase) was found the morning of May 1st at the Galien Sewage Ponds off Holden Road, north of 2nd Street but not relocated.
Uncommon warbler species observed today in Berrien County today (May 3rd) include KENTUCKY WARBLER at Warren Dunes State Park, CERULEAN WARBLER at Warren Dunes State Park and at the Lakeside Road Bridge, (just west of the Kesling Preserve - Forest Lawn Road). Forest Lawn Road - Kesling Preserve specialties this included YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH and noisy WHITE-EYED VIREOS - all summer residents.
