Whipoorwill question

Last night while I was out walking, I twice heard what sounded like a
whipoorwill.  The two calls were about 2 minutes apart and consisted only of
one iteration of the Whip-poor portion of the call.  Has anyone ever heard
them call like that before?  Or is it likely that something else was making
the sound?
