Chuck-wills-widow - June 24, Berrien co.

Hello,

Received word from Marvin Budd, that the previously reported CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOW was heard calling around 3:20am, June 24, 2008, near the corner of Long lake and Jones Roads. At times, it can be heard from True Road, east Jones Road. 

The species has been heard at this location every year since 2005. If you want to hear it, now would be a good time. The last reported dates have been: July 3, 2005; July 13, 2006 and July 7, 2007. 

It has been reported that a developer has bought up all the property at which the bird frequents, so this may be the last year before the area is "improved". Also, it is my personal belief that the same individual has been returning to the same place every year -- however, I can't prove it.
I don't know the average life span, in years, of a Chuck-wills-widow, but that is another thing to consider.
