At about 1:00 pm today (June 19) I saw the 2 Black-necked Stilts
reported previously at the Point Mouillee State Game Area. They were
in the same place as seen yesterday--in Long Pond near the
intersection of the middle dike and the dike that separates Long Pond
and Bloody Run. Probably the best way to see them is to proceed
southeast a hundred yards or so along the dirt dike that runs
parallel to, and is just across a ditch from, the middle dike, and
look for a sign marked "9" out in the water. The Stilts were in the
dead vegetation on the far shore, behind and a little to the left of
the sign. I think they are nesting there, or intend to do so. When
I was there, one of them drove off a blackbird that got a little close.
