American Avocet, Midland County

At approximately 11:30 AM today I observed an American Avocet actively feeding on a narrow sand bar in the Dow Ponds just south of the city of Midland.? The ponds can be viewed from the Whiting Overlook which is located on Poseyville Rd. about 1.1 miles south of the bridge in Midland.? For complete directions and map see pages 256-257 of A Birder's Guide to Michigan.? The sand bar is in the large, left-most pond if viewed from the overlook.? Also present was a Ruddy Turnstone, Caspian and Common Terns.? It was still there when I left after 30 minutes.
