Mich-Listers:

Feller DeWitt, John Walhout and I observed the previously reported
Varied Thrush in the Montague area this morning at the Dykema residence
(east of the woodlot). The Hicks (west of the woodlot) have not seen
the bird at their property for many days.

Be aware that except for a few seconds the thrush was not at the feeders
but was perched quietly twenty feet up in one of the pines at the edge
of the woodlot and the Dykema property. We were unaware of its presence
for at least ten minutes and would recommend to anyone searching for the
bird that while they watch the feeders they pan their binoculars
carefully through the branches of the trees in the woodlot.

In just ten minutes the Hicks property provided Common Redpolls and
twelve other common winter species including four woodpeckers (Downy,
Hairy, Red-bellied and Pileated).
