Kittiwake Follow-Up - Bay County

To clear up possible confusion on access to where Myles and I had the kittiwake and other good gulls, the end of Jones Rd is accessible to the public. The DNR made a parking lot at the end of Jones Rd for fishermen and they walk north through the marsh to the 'hot ponds' on the Saginaw Bay and fish that location. The lake levels are down so you can then walk west along the shoreline once you reach the 'hot pond' portion of the bay toward the mouth of the discharge channel. That's where the concentration of gulls were located.

Incidentally, I forgot to mention the two Glaucous Gulls that we saw as well so that brought the total gull species to eight. A good day gulling, to be sure.

P.S. Our area got over eight inches of powdery snow last night, just as an fyi.
