Sorry for the late update.  Myself and John Well (spell check please) were able to locate the bird yesterday just north of the shelter as described in previous postings.  This was my third time trying to get the bird and, while finally successful, it didn't stick around for us very long.  The best bet seems to be to exhaust all efforts at the shelter before walking on the trail to the north.  We didn't initially see it from the shelter but it was in fact in a tangle of grape vines and dogwood (?, bright red branches) on the north side of the small hills to the north west of the shelter; about 150' - 200' away.  We flushed the bird while walking by the tangle.  It flew northwest across the trail, perched at about 15' up in a tree then flew back across the trail into the line of pine trees.  I briefly found it again about 30' away at eye level, but then it was gone. Another hour of searching produced nothing.  The weather was not good yesterday - windy
 with flurries.
