Subject: Townsend's Solitare


At 2:00 Thursday, January 10, 2008, I observed a Townsend's Solitare at
Kitchel Dunes Preserve in Ottawa County. The bird was seen at about 100 to
150 feet north of the parking lot along the trail. It was with tree sparrows
and was flying from one poplar tree to another at about 20 feet up. It was
calling out its call notes for about 3 minutes at one location. The bird was
observed for approximately 10 minutes at 100-150 feet.

Kitchel Dunes Preserve is located in the city of Grand Haven on the north
side of the Grand River and can be reached from north
