Dear listers:
My son Garrett and I had at least two BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS at Grindstone City (northern tip of Huron County) Sunday morning. The birds were mixed in with a large flock (100+) of Cedar Waxwings and were feeding in berry-laden shrubs along the road the parallels the harbor. We also had Pine Siskins in the vicinity. On Saturday (2/23) we birded Harbor Beach and had 12 Long-tailed Ducks very close to the breakwall, and 3 Glaucus Gulls in the upper harbor. There were abundant ducks (Redheads, Canvasbacks, etc.) there too. We'd birded the mouth of the Saginaw River (access from Jones Road) earlier that day and had lots of birds, including one Lesser Black-backed Gull. Unlike Doug McWhirter and crew, we did NOT find Snowy Owls in the Bradleyville/Akron area of Tusculo County, and we tried on both the 23rd and 24th.
Good birding
Jim Dawe
