Listers,
Saturday morning Robert Epstein and I headed north with a couple of emails
and lots of hope. We did pretty well.
Arenac County
We had 100+ BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and about 10 PINE GROSBEAKS at the previously
reported location at the Methodist Church on US-23 just east of Au Gres. The
crabapples are about 1/2 gone. Earlier on Arenac State Rd we had over 200
Common Redpolls that split into 2 groups and went opposite ways. They were very
flighty and our attempts to scope them to look for Hoary was in vain.
Gladwin County
South of M-61 on Silverleaf Street in Gladwin we had a couple of Common
Redpolls at a feeder and about 20 PINE GROSBEAKS perched in various conifers
throughout the neighborhood.
Midland County
The previously reported BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS showed up at the entrance to the
Dow Gardens in the late afternoon. We had about 30 BOWAs but they did not stick
around and we did not see them eat. There are still large amounts of fruit
on the trees at this location. There was a drake Green-winged Teal at the Dow
Ponds.
Watching MY Redpolls today,
Scott Jennex
