Today, February 8th, Robert Epstein and I did some birding in the
central lower peninsula area. In the vicinity of the Maple River
State Game Area in southern Gratiot County, we found 3 Bohemian
Waxwings on Ranger Road a quarter mile west of Crapo Road. Initially
they were in a fairly distant bush with about 8 E. Bluebirds but then
they flew to a line of shrubs close to Ranger Road. We saw them
around 10 am. When we returned to that area at 4:30 p.m. we saw no
waxwings and no bluebirds. Other birds in the area were singles of
N. Harrier and Rough-legged Hawk with a Northern Shrike about a mile
to the SW on Taft Road.

We spent considerable time looking for the previously seen Bohemian
Waxwings on the Central Michigan campus in Mount Pleasant in Isabella
County but we came up empty. We managed to find a flock of around 30
Bohemian Waxwings SW on Mount Pleasant but still in Isabella County
on Millbrook Road a half mile west of Whiteville Road.
