Short-eared & Long-eared Owls LEMP Wayne County

I stared this afternoon at Lake Erie Metro Park seeing 5 long- eared 
owls  and ended with one Short-eared Owl. The Long-eareds are at the 
same location they have been all this winter.

I saw the Short-eared looking north east from marina point. The owl was 
sitting on the edge of the ice with Celeron Island in the 
background.When I first saw the owl on the ice my first thought was 
first year Snowy Owl . But that didn't track. The Naturalist Jerry 
Wykes was kind enough to come out and help me make the identification. 
After consulting Sibleys we concluded Short-eared Owl.



I also Saw 14 species of ducks,Mute & Tundra Swans, Bald Eagles,Great 
Blue Heron, Song,Tree and White-throated Sparrows,Great Black-backed 
gulls and Golden-crowned Kinglets.
