There is a flock of bohemian waxwings in Ottawa County at Hemlock Crossing
County Park in Port Sheldon Township. There was a flock of about 80
waxwings. All of the ones I could get close enough to ID (about 20) were
bohemians. I think they all might have been BH. There was also a robin
mixed in. There was also a mystery bird that had a silhouette like a
catbird as it flew across the field not to be found again.
>From US 31, go west on Croswell St. a short distance to West Olive Rd.
Turn south (left) on W. Olive Rd. and travel about 0.3 miles to the
entrance of Hemlock Crossing. From the trailhead, walk the trail south to
Intersection #1. Go right over a small bridge and go left at the fork in
the trail until you reach another trail going off to the left. Turn left
at this trail and you will soon enter an open field with lots of
multiflora rose. The flock was at the far end of this field (before the
trail enters the woods again). The birds were in a distant tree, but some
would fly in close to feed in the brush. a scope might be helpful.
The trails are covered with about 1 foot of snow.
