My neighbors, the Wards at 1100 Clair Circle (off Red Oak and east of Newport),
have reported regularly seeing a Varied Thrush in their back yard. I saw it
once last Saturday in my yard at 1120 Clair. Barb Ward says she sees it pretty
regularly everyday, but it travels with a mixed flock of gold finches, chicadees
and woodpeckers that make the rounds at feeders throughout the neighborhood. I
am not sure if this may be the same bird which was seen seveal weeks ago at a
yard on Wendy, which is not far away.
The Wards have given permission for birders to look for the bird by walking
around the house and the garage to view feeders and the feeding area. You are
welcome to visit our house at 1120 for a look at our feeders, too, but it seems
The Ward yard is the more likely hangout for this bird.
