Iceland Gull, Lake Fenton, Genesee Co - 12/05

Birders,

This afternoon at 4:00 I saw one first-winter Iceland Gull at Lake Fenton in southern Genesee Co. I viewed it from a small vacant lot listed for sale on Margaret Drive, just south of Ruth, on the north-west side of the lake. 

>From the Thompson Rd exit at US-23, go east on Thompson, then south on Torrey. Look for Ruth Dr shortly after the flashing yellow light at North Long Lake Rd. Turn Left on Ruth and then right on Margaret. The small vacant lot will be on your left, where you can walk down to the lake. There was a very distant black-backed gull as well (Greater, I believe) among the hundreds of Herrings. You may also want to check a DNR boat launch off Grove Park Rd a few miles farther south, but the gulls that were present were quite distant when I visited.
