As I called in from the field, I saw a Reeve in cell 3 off the Banana
at Pointe Mouillee around 4:45 p.m. I had been at cell 3 for 15
minutes before this bird flew in and it only stayed for 5 minutes
before all the shorebirds were flushed by the immature Peregrine that
has overstayed its welcome there this month. When it comes by, all
the shorebirds leave though the ducks stay--but make a point of not
flying even when buzzed by the Peregrine.

It was interesting how shorebirds would appear and then disappear
during the hour and a half I was at cell 3. I watched a Buff-
breasted Sandpiper fly in, make 2 low passes over the flats and then
fly off. A Knot was there when I arrived but after the Peregrine
appeared I did not see it reappear when several hundred shorebirds
returned. Two Black-bellied Plover came and went. Shorebird
highlights that were normally in view were 8 Baird's Sandpipers and 4
Wilson's Phalarope.

I saw one Black-necked Stilt in the Vermet Unit.

Cheers,

Karl Overman
