A Loggerhead Shrike was found at the Point today. We lost the bird for 45
minutes to an hour before finding it again at the spot of the original sighting.
The bird was last seen at 11:30, but people were staking the spot out when I
left to post this. We wish we were getting longer looks at this bird, but
all agreed with somewhat brief looks through a scope that it was LOSH. I have
posted a picture on the wpbostaff blog, which can be linked out of either of
the blogs available off of the wpbo homepage (I need to make that simpler). I
wish I got a better photo, but think the posted photo is good enough to be
conclusive. You can click on the photo to enlarge it. We will obviously give an
update later.
For those familiar with the Point, the bird was hunting from snags in
the large boggy opening on the shipwreck side of the census trail. It was
towards the end of the opening that is closer to the old rope road.
