Sandy Schacht, Ryan Smith, and I found a Buff-breasted Sandpiper at the
Branch County sewage treatment ponds at Kinderhook this afternoon. It was on the
top and side of the dike around the pond immediately east of the office.
Though there were only a few shorebirds in all, an Am. Golden Plover and a
Ruddy Turnstone were also present.
>From I-69, exit at Copeland Road, the southernmost exit in Michigan. Turn
west for about 1/4 mile to the blinker light in Kinderhook. Go north on
Angola Road. The entrance to the WWTP is on the west side of the road at the
north edge of town. There is a no trespassing sign on the fence near the
entrance, but I have talked with the manager and birders are welcome to come in IF
the gate is open.
