Dear birders,
This afternoon, my husband and I birded for two hours at Birchwood Farms' forested interior walking trails (approx. 5 miles NW of Harbor Springs, in Emmet County). During the walk, we enjoyed watching 9 species of warblers, most of which were in the canopy (Tennessee, Nashville , Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Black & White, American Redstart, Canada).
Near the end of our walk, around 4:45 p.m. I detected motion in the knee-high understory. Almost immediately I saw a female Hooded Warbler, and within seconds, after hearing a Hooded call note, a male flew in, followed by an immature female Hooded Warbler. The adults continued calling while the 3 foraged together for about 10 minutes.
Interestingly, we watched these birds today in a location less than 1/4 mile away from where we had seen a pair of Hooded Warblers in May & June, at adjacent Pond Hill Farm.
Good birding!
