Dear birders,

For the past couple of days, a juvenile Cattle Egret has been hanging around some horses in a field approx. 10 miles north of Harbor Springs, along the west side of State Road (C-77) just north of Osborne Road (which is 1 mile north of Robinson Road), in Readmond Township, Emmet County.

When we watched the bird this morning, it was always following the horses. We first saw it from State Road in the large pasture just north of Osborne Road. It then disappeared from our view as it followed the horses to the barn/corral area just south of the pasture. We then drove onto Osborne Road, where we were barely able to see it through a row of pine trees, as it perched on a horse's back.

Cattle Egret is not listed in PRAS's checklist of birds of Emmet County, so this is an exciting find. Many thanks to John Shreves for finding the bird, and to Dick Taylor for sharing the find with us.
